Activity 1.4: What Does it Mean to be Educated?
Activity 1.4: What Does it Mean to be Educated?
My first thoughts about
what it means to be educated, come from a list of “The 24 Character Strengths” (Peterson & Seligman, 2004) which
are divided into six groups of virtues, including Wisdom and Knowledge, Courage, Humanity, Justice, Temperance and Transcendence.
These traits are common across cultures and time, and may lead to increased
happiness. To be educated means to possess the character strengths and virtues
to live happily, and function in one’s environment. I am striving to be better
educated, but still lack self-control, kindness, and forgiveness. My greatest strengths
are, grit, bravery, and fairness.
